Knowledge is power. Together with the Boy’s and Girl’s Club, these weekly career awareness sessions leverage the experiences and guidance of area professionals to educate – and motivate — Middle Schoolers.
For many, taking that first step on the path toward a productive, fulfilling career starts in Middle School, where critical skills are developed and important choices made. This first step is particularly challenging for the hundreds of youth living in our most impoverished neighborhoods, where fewer role models exist and the path forward is far less certain. United Way is helping Middle Schoolers see the possibilities more clearly, by connecting them to guest speakers every week – successful men and women that are shining examples of what’s possible in every career field.
The next generation of engineers, doctors, police officers, ironworkers, lawyers and scientists are today taking their first, tentative steps forward in our Middle Schools. We’re helping show the way.
